A bright future

While Russell was napping today and I was scrolling through my favorite blogs I came across this
post
The link above takes you to a great blog that I really enjoy reading, but for some reason I cannot get the video on this particular post to show up every time so I have included the actual news clip below, just in case.

Anyway...This short video clip makes me smile every time I watch it...And I have watched it a few times now!

When Russell was born I was afraid he would not be smart...Because I didn't know anything about Down syndrome...I thought people who had Ds were profoundly handicapped...I thought they kind of lived in their own little world oblivious to their surroundings. I did not realize that they could think just as clearly as we do. I did not realize how much they were capable of.
I feel deep shame when I look back two years ago and realize I mourned the birth of my son when really I should have just been celebrating him.

I love this video because it breaks through and destroys the ignorant stereotypes that I myself once held to be true about people with Down syndrome.

This young man is everything I want Russell to be.

News clip

This video is proof that people with Down syndrome are intelligent, and that they lead meaningful, productive lives, just like the rest of us.
And my son, who has Down syndrome, has nothing but a bright future ahead of him.
